Applications due April 7 for Old Town rotating sculpture program
As $4.25 million in upgrades for Old Town Keller enter their final stretch, the city’s Public Arts Board is readying for the inaugural phase of the Old Town Keller Rotating Sculpture Program.
Entries are being accepted now for the first five outdoor sculptures to be featured in Old Town as part of a two-year exhibit meant to further enhance the area’s eclectic blend of restaurants, retail and office space.
“Great cities of the world are known for their art; it provides a wondrous sense of place and plays an integral role in the growth and development of a community,” Public Arts Board Chairwoman Brenda Wyatt said. “With this program, which will eventually grow to include nine sculptures, Keller will further enhance its reputation as one of the best cities in which to enjoy public art in the Dallas/Fort Worth region.”
A $1,000 honorarium shall be awarded for each of the five pieces, and one Best in Show winner shall be awarded an additional $500. All sculptures must be the original work of a Texas artist, family appropriate, pose no risk to public safety, be made of materials that can withstand the harsh Texas weather and require no maintenance once installed. Selected pieces will also be made available for sale to the public.
