School Campus Patrol Program

Schoolchildren in Keller and Westlake began seeing more of Keller’s police officers in the spring of 2013 as the department rolled out a new School Campus Patrol Program.

Developed in partnership with Keller ISD and the Town of Westlake in the wake of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in Connecticut, the program has officers regularly patrolling campuses in an effort to heighten police presence, strengthen relationships between officers and campus communities, and further familiarize officers with campus layouts so that they can be more effective in the event of an emergency.

Patrols occur randomly at campuses served by the Keller Police Department, with officers leaving their marked cars out front while they perform foot patrols both inside and outside the buildings. The uniformed officers do not enter classrooms unless requested by campus staff.

This program serves 10 KISD campuses within Keller’s city limits:
• Hidden Lakes Elementary
• Keller-Harvel Elementary
• Ridgeview Elementary
• Shady Grove Elementary
• Willis Lane Elementary
• Bear Creek Intermediate
• Indian Springs Middle
• Keller Middle School
• Keller Center for Advanced Learning
• Keller Learning Center

Also included in the program are Westlake Academy (as Keller PD has been Westlake’s police department since 2002), St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School and Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy.
