Keller, Southlake, Westlake and Colleyville residents may use traps for the humane capture of nuisance animals on their property.

City Traps

Residents served by Regional Animal Services may check out a city trap for up to 14 days. As traps are available on a first-come, first-served basis, we suggest that you call first to see if traps are available.

Private Traps

Residents who capture animals in privately owned traps will be advised where they can safely release the animal. A Regional Animal Services Officer may also be dispatched to pick up the trap and handle the animal's release for a fee of $30.

Releasing Trapped Animals

  • Domesticated Animals shall be brought back to animal control where they will be checked for a microchip or other identifying information. Domesticated animals remain with Regional Animal Services for three days before being transferred to our Regional Animal Adoption Center, managed by the Humane Society of North Texas.
  • Non-Domesticated Animals such as raccoons, opossums and armadillos will be taken to a non-residential area such as a large park or nature area and released. If the animal is trapped in a garage etc. as opposed to a trapping device, an Animal Services officer may advise the complainant to leave the area open so that the animal can leave at its discretion.
  • Skunks have to be euthanized and cannot be released back into the wild.
