Firefighter Compensation
Hiring Incentives
Applicants who hold both Paramedic and Firefighter certifications are eligible for:
- $5,000 sign-on incentive
- $2,500 relocation stipend for living further than 150 miles from Keller Town Hall, 1100 Bear Creek Pkwy., Keller, Texas 76248
Applicants who hold a Paramedic certification are eligible for:
- $2,500 sign-on incentive
Lateral Entry
In addition to the hiring incentives listed above, experienced candidates who currently hold a Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Paramedic certification and Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Firefighter certification are eligible for lateral entry and placement on the City of Keller’s Fire Department Step Plan up to Step 9. Placement on the Step Plan will be based on years of experience as a certified Firefighter/Paramedic at a paid Fire Department.
Our Shift Schedule
48 hours on, 96 hours off
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Texas Paramedic certification AND Texas Firefighter certification; OR Texas Paramedic certification
Hiring Process
- When an opening is announced, candidates must complete an employment application via the main Employment page to be considered.
- Upon successfully passing both the written and physical examinations, candidates will be required to submit a completed and notarized Personal History Statement, along with any requested/required documentation
- Candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background investigation
- Candidates will participate in an Interview Board comprised of other members of the Keller Fire Department
- Candidates will interview with the Keller Fire Chief
- Following a conditional job offer, candidates must also successfully pass a Polygraph Examination, Psychological Evaluation, Medical Examination, and Drug Screen
Written and Physical Examination Components
- General aptitude written examination for entry-level firefighters consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. Applicants must obtain a passing score of 70% or higher.
- Physical Agility Test will include the following:
- Charged Hose Drag
- Tool Carry
- Ventilation Simulator
- Victim Drag
- Ladder Raise
